Mel Gibson Allegedly Facing Charges For Domestic Abuse

If this news surprises you at all, we have one million bridges we’d like to sell you. Allegedly Mel Gibson will face criminal charges for domestic abuse, unless his lawyer can successfully intervene on his behalf. According to RadarOnline, prosecutors met with Gibson’s attorney Blair Berk yesterday in a last-ditch attempt to head of charges of domestic violence/corporal injury, which could be prosecuted as a felony or misdemeanor. Sources close to the case, however, say the wheels are already in motion. “The District Attorney has a very strong case, there is a lot of information that the public and Mel Gibson are unaware that the DA has,” an insider revealed, making the only thing shocking thing about this news is why it didn’t happen months ago.
As of this afternoon, District Attorney Steve Cooley says the case is “actively in review,” but has not decided whether charges will be brought. In case you can’t remember which parts of the eternal ballad of Mel were illegal rather than just morally repugnant, the charges would stem from Gibson’s admission that he slapped ex Oksana Grigorieva, which she remembers as a much more brutal attack. Guess all those threatening phone calls were just a freebie! The news comes just days after officials at the SXSW Film Festival announced The Beaver will premiere there in March. Looks like Mel will get out just in time to shoot the sequel. Or if we luck out, never.

Mel Gibson Wins More Time With His Daughter

Mel Gibson had his child visitation rights extended by an LA judge earlier today, according to TMZ. While the judge reportedly said there were “no winners and losers” to be found in this edict, getting extra time with your daughter after her mom accuses you of physical abuse and making death threats sure sounds like a win to us. Especially, when the mom in question, Oksana Grigorieva, tried to strip Mel of overnight visitation rights entirely.
The pair will maintain joint custody of little Lucia, and Mel had his previous allotment of time—6 days every two weeks, 3 overnight—extended by a little over a day. Guess the judge bought Mel’s claim that he had to slap Oksana to save the baby…though not enough to keep the kid away from her either.

Mel Gibson to Appear in Court to Fight Oksana

Mel Gibson will be front and center in L.A. County Superior Court on Monday ... as his lawyers ask the judge to strip Oksana Grigorieva of custody and award it to him ... TMZ has learned.


We're told Mel is appearing because he wants the judge to see how serious he is about getting full custody, on grounds Oksana is hurting Lucia by going on what he considers a public smear campaign rooted in lies. We're told Mel's team believes Oksana's conduct -- especially in the face of Judge Scott Gordon warning her to stay silent -- smacks of instability.

As we reported, Mel also wants Judge Gordon to give Oksana supervised visitation only and no overnights with the baby ... at least for the time being.

Sources tell us ... Mel will ask the judge to make the order last for six months, after which the issues can be revisited.

Mel Gibson Moves to Strip Oksana of Custody

TMZ has learned Mel Gibson's lawyers will appear in court on Monday and ask the judge in his custody war to award him sole custody of baby Lucia ... this according to court documents.



According to the documents, in addition to attempting to take custody away from Oksana Grigorieva, Mel's lawyers will ask Judge Scott Gordon to award her visitation, but only with a monitor.  And Mel's lawyers want the judge to deny Oksana any overnight visits with the baby.

 Mel's lawyers argue in the documents that Oksana's false and derogatory statements to the media about Mel and the attempt to sully his character show she is not acting in the best interests of Lucia.  Oksana trashed Mel last night on "Larry King Live."

As TMZ first reported, Judge Gordon has warned Oksana she could lose custody if she talked to the media.

Mel Gibson Had To Slap His Girlfriend To Save His Baby, Says Mel Gibson

We think we finally figured out why Mel Gibson has been acting so insane for the last…as long as we can remember: he was just trying to save babies! According to a recently released declaration he filed July 23, Gibson slapped Oksana Grigorieva in an attempt to save their baby Lucia after Oksana became “hysterical” and he feared she would accidentally hurt the child. Well, in that case, slap away Mr. Gibson! The slapping floor is yours!
Explained Mel. “I slapped Oksana one time with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality. I did not slap her hard, I was just trying to shock her so that she would stop screaming, continuing shaking Lucia back and forth.” Ugh, we really hope none of this is true. It’s bad enough picturing a baby in danger, but when Mel Gibson is the sane person in a situation? You know things have taken a turn for the epically terrible.
Said Gibson in the report, “While I do not believe I handled the situation as well as I should have, I was worried about the rough way Oksana was shaking and tossing Lucia around.” AS WELL AS I SHOULD HAVE. Now that’s the understatement of the year. And we’re assuming Oksana was running around shaking that baby all over for no reason. Certainly not in response to anything her belligerent mad man of a boyfriend was doing. No siree bob….
According to the declaration, Mel also says he did not hit Oksana or knock any of her teeth, false or otherwise, out of her mouth. “There was never any blood on Oksana and none of her teeth were ‘broken,’ although one of the false veneers from a tooth apparently did come off, I did not see that occur at the time.” Well if Mel didn’t see it, it must have not happened! Mel Had To Fork Over A Buttload Of Guns To Police

In the latest news from the terror mind, police reports show this past July Mel Gibson surrendered his guns to police…and yes, that was guns, as in plural, as in multiple guns. Apparently when Oksana Grigorieva took out a domestic violence restraining order against him a few months ago, standard police op required Mel to hand over all weapons, a list we’re imagining included everything from “anything light enough for Mel to pick up and heave at a police cruiser” and “every curse word known to man.”
Unfortunately, what was actually on the “Receipt for Property Taken Into Custody” recorded on July 15 is way more disturbing, as you’re about to find out. The firearms Gibson had to have pried out of his blubbering, maniacal hands were:

• A blue steel, semi-automatic 9 millimeter Glock handgun
• A blue steel, semi-automatic  9 millimeter Beretta handgun
• A blue steel, semi-automatic 12 gauge Benelli shotgun
• A blue steel, lever action Winchester rifle
• A magazine for the Glock
• A magazine for the Beretta
• A speed loader for the Glock

Mel Gibson to Oksana: I Have Nothing to Say to You

Mel Gibson didn't utter a word to Oksana Grigorieva during his deposition Monday ... and Oksana gave Mel the same silent treatment ... sources tell TMZ.


Mel was asked a wide range of questions during the marathon depo, with Oksana looking on and huddling with her lawyers, suggesting questions.

And here's a shocker ... Mel's deposition was videotaped! Although the tapes, we're told, will be watermarked to trace any leak, nothing in this case has stayed secret.

As for Mel's demeanor, we're told he never lost his cool but did become annoyed from time to time.

We're told Mel asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination on issues related to the domestic violence investigation.

And sources say ... Oksana's lawyers were not able to play the now-infamous tapes she secretly recorded.

In a word -- we're told the deposition was "contentious."

'Hangover 2' Director Addresses Mel Gibson Switch

After news broke that Mel Gibson's cameo in "The Hangover 2" had been scrapped, observers tried to figure out why the Australian actor had landed on the cutting-room floor. But the film's director, Todd Phillips, wants the public to know that Gibson wasn't fired.
"No one was ever fired," Phillips said, according to People. "It's a term that is so obscene to me."
Gibson was slated to play a tattoo artist. But shortly after "Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis said during a radio appearance that he was in a "deep protest right now with a movie I'm working on," Liam Neeson replaced Gibson.
"Someone was doing me a favor to come in for a two-minute cameo, and we changed it," Phillips explained. "It wasn't like we fired somebody. [Gibson] was just doing a favor from the beginning."
Phillips recently released a statement saying that he had wanted Gibson in the film, but that not everyone agreed with his decision.
"I thought Mel would have been great in the movie," read the statement. "And I had the full backing of [Warner Bros. Pictures president] Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew."
