This is really sad news to report and our prayers are with her. Aretha Franklin has cancer. It was confirmed by her family yesterday after the 68-year-old singer underwent surgery for unknown reasons last week. If reports by The National Enquirer are true, then it’s pancreatic, and the disease was diagnosed months ago.
Post the surgery, Franklin released a statement which read, “The surgery was highly successful. God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!”
Those were hopeful words, but this new information proves that her troubles are far from over. Her old friend, the Rev. Jesse Jackson urges fans to keep the faith as he told the Associated Press that the Queen of Souls’, “spirits are high, and her faith is strong.” He revealed that of his visits with Franklin, she seems to be recovering, saying, “She’s conscious, communicating and taking daily walks up and down the hall. She has amazing strength - body, religion and faith. It’s what he keeps her going.” We’re praying she keeps strong and fights this.
